Off We Go Again

On September 15, 2007, Sesame left the safety of North Cove in Old Saybrook, CT to venture forth once again. We went across to Shelter Island for a couple of days so that we could double-check that we had what we needed before we got out of touch with home base.

We watched the start of the Saturday Off Soundings Race on a rainy and blustery day from inside our dry and warm cabin before we retreated back to Coecles Harbor for lunch and a long nap while listening to numerous boats radio in their withdrawals. Three years ago, we would have been out there racing.

We went from Coecles to Port Jefferson and the Sand Hole on Lloyd's Neck.

From there, we went through Hell Gate and the East River to a nice little anchorage just south of the Statue of Liberty at Liberty Park in New Jersey.

The next morning, we put the boat in a slip at Newport Marina in Jersey City, cleaned up a bit and took the PATH train to visit Judy's sister and brother-in-law in the brand new 5th Avenue apartment (across the street from the Empire State Building) they have rented for a year while he goes to school to get a Masters degree from Christie's Auction House in "Art History and Connoisseurship."

We expect to venture forth again tomorrow (September 24) toward Manasquan Inlet on the New Jersey shore and probably anchor in the Metedeconk River for at least one night. After that, the only real date is a few days in New Bern, NC while we fly down to Florida to babysit our grandson. Then we'll take our time getting down to the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and start looking for a weather "window" to head across to the Abacos sometime in December or January.
